In the Wesak Valley In the Wesak Valley at Wesak looking towards the rock shelf and with Mt. Kailashto the right. These photos were taken at the time of Wesak as it is celebrated in the West and by Theraveda Buddhists, in May of 2000. The Tibetans hold their Wesak festival a month later, in June. Consequently the valley was empty.

Wesak Valley Another Wesak Valley photo, looking towards the rock shelf and Mt. Kailash. In the Alice Bailey teachings, it is said that Shamballa makes its impact upon humanity every twenty-five years at Wesak, and the year 2000 was just such a time.

Prayer Pole Prayer Pole in the Wesak Valley. Here is a photo of the large prayer pole that is in front of the rock shelf in the Wesak Valley. To gain a sense of perspective here, note the two tiny figures on the right hand side of this enormous pole. The rock shelf is immediately behind the pole and the visitors, and is around 100 feet high.

Mt. Kailash. Mt. Kailash as seen from the Wesak Valley. On the left hand slope you can see a small triangle of snow; here lives the demon who protects Mt. Kailash and the valley below. This demon was subdued by Guru Padma-Sambhava, who brought Buddhism to Tibet.
