Movement 10
Flying
The final dance of "The First Day of Spring" is Flying. When we have reached this stage we have, as it were, taken off. Having liberated ourselves from the difficulties and the grossness of our past, having awakened our finer nature and worked on ourselves consistently over a period of time (in all the ways symbolized by the first nine dances), we are now sensitive to subtler dimensions of being. Our discerning ability becomes keener, and we can truly begin to operate in the supra-sensory world. In other words, we begin to fly beyond the confines of physical reality. We are no longer earth-bound. We are in a body -- yet not of the body. We are in the world and yet not of the world, as Christ said. We can begin now to move through life, no longer unconsciously at the mercy of everything, but consciously, as the pilot of our own vehicle for life and light and healing in the world.
The movements of Flying resemble those of a bird, and the main muscles to be used are those of the shoulders. This takes practice, but it is well to aim at a rippling, flowing motion travelling from the brain stem at the back of the neck, through the shoulders, the upper arms, gently through the elbows, and with subtle fluttering movements engaging the lower arms, wrists, fingers, and on out through the finger tips into the subtle emanations radiating out in the soft, ultra-visual colors seen by clairvoyants.
We have now transcended the physical; the soul is born, as it were, after its "ten lunar months" of gestation (symbolized by the ten movements of "The First Day of Spring"). We are now operating in the realm of the deva — the life-force or energy-level of all creation — that which sustains the physical in living, manifest form and gives it consciousness and life. We are ready to engage now in Everá, the true Dance of the Soul.
