The First Day of Spring

Being the First Ten Movements of

Peter Deunov's Paneurhythmy

Ardella Nathanael

Paneurhythmy movement 6
As we listen to that Divine Music, we are listening to the "distant drummer" who is setting the pace for our life. We are listening to our inner music, "the Song we came to sing."

Movement 6
Opening/Expanding

The next dance is called Opening, which allows us to expand even further, this time horizontally. This movement/dance denotes that we are opening to the Universe all around us, outside the circle. With our mind, the thinking side of our nature, we are opening up to the great Universe, the Cosmos. We are enlarging our minds and opening ourselves up to great ideas, as we move round the circle. With each sweep of the arm out, we are opening to a different part of the horizon.

The opening out movement of the arms in this dance synchronizes with the forward movement of the right foot, symbolically expressing the function of our thinking nature moving out to connect with the world around us. As the left foot moves forward, the arm swings back to the heart, symbolically expressing the function of our feeling nature, which directs our attention inward to the heart and helps to develop our intuitive abilities.

To do this dance properly, the hand and arm need to be in a straight line, the elbow needs to be on a level with the shoulder, and the fingers must point to the spiritual heart center at the thymus gland. Some people call it the High Heart because the physical heart is a little lower down. This is the heart from the spiritual point of view, and this is where we find the thymus gland, which controls all the other glands, and therefore truly is the heart of our being. The fingers are pointing to the High Heart, not covering it, and you will notice that this forces us to open our chest wide. It gives one a wonderful, expansive feeling, and as we swing the arm forward and out to the side horizontally we feel our consciousness going right out into outer space, into the Cosmos.

Halfway through the dance we change over. We put the right hand on the right hip, and we swing out horizontally and back to the heart with the left hand, so that now we are opening to the center of the circle — symbolically to the center of all creation. Our feeling nature is developing its intuitive capacities, and through our intuition we are beginning to get guidance from the source of all Creation.

I have found that when doors close in my life, (and many doors have closed, some of them very painfully), it is because I am being guided to something else which is greater and more important for me to do. If I just accept that, and work with it, the joy begins to flow again, and the meaning and purpose gradually become clearer within me.

We are opening up our heart in this dance. Again, the left hand comes pointing to the heart center, but not covering it. Then we open our left arm out to the center of the circle, where the music is coming from, and as we listen to that Divine Music, we are listening to the "distant drummer" who is setting the pace for our life. We are listening to our inner music, "the Song we came to sing."

Lawrence Le Shan cures people of cancer by helping them discover the song they came to sing, and John Diamond also talks of this. Each of us, deep in our inner being, knows that there is some great purpose for us in this wide world. When we can discover this Song, we can, as John Diamond said, cantilate, and life becomes an incredible joy and an amazing song. When we open up with the feeling side of our nature to this music which is inspiring and guiding us, our life can then truly become a song.
