What the ego wants and desires is the opposite of Truth. |
When people seek the Truth, they make assumptions about what the Truth will be. They assume, for example, that finding the Truth will make them happy, successful, and healthy. They assume that Truth will support their ego in its own expression. They think that Truth is there to make their life easier and support their own growth, and assist them in obtaining enlightenment. But Truth is, by its very nature, not the slave of ego. Truth does not exist for the purpose of making people happy, successful, or heathy. Truth is not limited by the bounds of the personality consciousness. By its very nature, Truth is for the purpose of leading people to God, Reality, and divinity. Truth is for the purpose of leading people out of ego into a transcendent awareness of nonduality. Truth is for the purpose of allowing the Divine Will to express itself in the world. Thus people seek Truth, but do not consider that Truth will destroy the very things that they seek to achieve by discovering Truth. People seek Truth to make themselves more powerful, but Truth destroys the power of the ego. People seek Truth to find happiness, but Truth destroys all satisfaction with the personal life. People seek Truth to obtain enlightenment for themselves, but Truth destroys the self in order to make enlightenment possible. Thus people imagine that Truth is their slave, but when Truth is found, we inevitably become the slave of Truth — a servant of the Divine Consciousness, a Disciple of Christ. People imagine that when they find the Truth, that it will be possible to turn it to their own ends. But when Truth is found and known, the realization of Truth is a continuous process of ego-dissolving and disintegration. For what the ego wants and desires is the opposite of Truth. What the ego seeks to accomplish is the opposite of Truth. Thus when push comes to shove, most people would rather be happy than know the Truth. They would rather sit smilingly in ignorance than consider the nature of Truth. For Truth in expression means the end of the ego and the end of self, and thus consequently Truth also means the end of personal happiness. Truth in expression is the ending of the personal life. For Truth is of divinity, of God, and of the divine Spirit. To go to Truth is to go to God, and to go to God is to leave the personal nature behind forever. This, of course, is too difficult a course for most people to contemplate. They would imagine that they can go to God, obtain enlightenment, and keep every bad habit. Or, at the very least, keep their precious personality and all its goals and dreams. So while people say they seek the Truth, they continuously have expectations about what Truth is, that in turn blocks them from knowing Truth. Since Truth does not meet their expectations, it is not recognized as such. People then pass diamonds on the wayside because they cannot see what they do not want. The Truth, to most people, therefore, seems quite negative. For Truth is a destroyer of self, but people seek to build their personal life. Truth sends the message that the personal life will end, but people seek only to enclose and protect themselves. Truth reveals the shallowness and falsehood of material living, but people seek to create something new for their material life. Truth shows the way to God, but people wish only to live the personal life. Truth reveals the inevitability of death, but people wish only to enjoy the present. Truth reveals a future of Armageddon, but people cannot see past today's news. Truth reveals a dangerous universe, but people want only to consider their personal safety. Thus all Truths are labeled negative to protect the self. The ego must die — thus Truth is a murderer. Our goals must be sacrificed — thus Truth is not loving. This civilization will not last — thus Truth is a negative outlook on life. The planet must be purified — thus Truth is a failure. We must surrender to God — thus Truth denies free will. This world is an illusionDuality must be transcended — thus Truth opposes the good. This world is a realm of suffering — thus Truth leads to unhappiness and pain. In all ways, the meaning of Truth is twisted and distorted. Thus there are few friends of Truth in the world today. So few they can hardly be found on this planet. There are few who can see through the veils and mists of this dark realm to see the value of Truth in the world. There are few who can accept the Truth as it is without having it watered down and made palatable to the masses, who would prefer to imagine that God is their personal servant and that Truth is their personal key to success. No one can present the Truth in the world today, as it is, and expect to be recognized, acknowledged, or even seen. For the ego is the enemy of Truth, and people are ruled by ego. In this dark age, the whole force of the world opposes Truth. The very substance of the planet is permeated with energies that oppose Truth. The very air that we breathe and the dust under our feet stand in opposition to Truth. They have all become a dark barrier that shuts out the divine Light and spiritual Illumination. All the creations of humanity — the buildings, cars, factories, clothing, farms, churches, schools — radiate energies that shut out Spirit. Like a fog they lower their veil until the eyes cannot see, and people look only at their feet rather than lifting their eyes upwards to divinity. All the subjective creations of human beings — feelings and thoughts — likewise form a nearly impenetrable barrier to the recognition of Truth. Great thought forms of materialism, government, organized religion, and science trap the human mind in a vice-like grip, and few are capable of resisting the power of the massed and united thought forms of billions of people. It takes a strong mind to resist — and then a still stronger heart to give that mind over to God's Will. So people do not really seek Truth. They do not really love the Truth. They are really empty words. For people do not want Truth, but rather they fear, loathe, hate and reject the Truth. Most of all, Truth is ignored. Maybe, people think, if Truth is ignored, it will just go away. Then they can go about their lives not being disturbed by the very disturbing concepts that Truth brings into life. Truth is not what people seek. People seek lies. This is one of the truths that people find so hard to accept and to see in themselves. For we are not really seeking Truth until we are seeking God, Reality, and Life. And we cannot really find Truth until we have turned over our life to the guidance of the Spirit within our hearts. For there is no Truth in this world to be found except in the divine Spark in the Heart. Only those who cry in pain at being separated from God, only those who want out of this world and this body, and only those who instinctively moan "I want to go HOME!" will find their way to Truth. Spirit will hear and will know when we are ready and when the time is ripe. Then the doors will open, the Light will shine, and Truth will do its work of beneficent destruction, to set us free. |
