We can seek for God or we can seek for self. We cannot do both at the same time. When we are seeking for God, we are seeking to fulfill the divine Plan. That plan does not provide for the fulfillment of personality desires. It is only concerned for humanity and the planet, not the lower self. If we seek for our own personal happiness, then we are seeking for self. People assume that their own personal happiness is a part of the divine Plan; this is a delusion. They assume that their own personal happiness is somehow necessary for the divine Plan to be manifested; this is just selfishness. People assume that the Plan for humanity is for all people to live in happiness; this is again a misconception, because seeking for happiness is the opposite of seeking for God. If we are focussed upon our own happiness, how can Spirit enter in? If we are focussed upon our own feelings, our own worth, our own desires, our own hopes, dreams, expectations, etc., then how can the impersonal, divine Life live within us? Clearly it cannot. Indeed, our searching for happiness focusses us upon the self, and away from the group life. It leads us to concentrate on the ego, and not upon God. Seeking our own happiness strengthens the self, but it is precisely the self that blocks us away from the divine awareness, Reality, and Truth. Seeking happiness is, therefore, the opposite of true spirituality. If we seek for our own personal health or healing, we are once more seeking for self and not for God. People assume that their own personal health is somehow a part of the divine Plan. They assume that they must be healthy for the Will of God to work out. But the ego, the personality, is not a part of divinity. It is precisely the ego that is the opposite of divinity. Certainly we may need to be healthy in order to perform our tasks within the divine Plan. But if we SEEK heath, then we are still only seeking for self. If we are focussed on seeking for self, then we are not focussed upon God, Truth, and Reality. Thus we are once more "looking at our feet" rather than upwards to the divine Reality, and having faith in Spirit's direction. The true server of the planet will leave the health of the personality in the hands of Spirit, and trust God to provide all that is needed for the lower nature. Likewise, if we seek for our own personal enlightenment, we are seeking for self. Contrary to the propaganda of various new age teachings, it is not necessary for us to be enlightened for the divine Plan to work out for planet earth. That Plan is altogether indifferent to whether we are enlightened or not; rather it is focussed on fulfilling divine Will. That will is for each human being to seek God. If people are seeking enlightenment instead of God, then that Plan is not being worked out. People think that seeking enlightenment is the same as seeking for God. This is not so. To seek for enlightenment is to continue to live in the world of self development, growth, and evolution. God does not live in such a world. God does not evolve, grow, or develop. God lives in a universe where all life is unseparated from the Divine. Thus no one in that universe needs to seek unification with the Divine. Thus egos who seek to evolve, grow, or develop are not in synchronization with God's vibration — they are not aware of the divine Universe. God simply is. Thus those who seek for God do not seek for enlightenment. Indeed, anything to do with the personal self and its success is totally invisible to the spiritual consciousness. To seek for God is therefore to seek the divine Universe of Reality and Truth. That divine Universe only becomes present in our consciousness through Spirit's Will in faith and trust. That Will can only express in our lives when we stop seeking for self in every way, shape, and form. Spirit expresses when we stop seeking our own personal happiness, our own personal health, our own personal enlightenment, and our own personal relationship with God. There is nothing personal about being with God. God is wholly impersonal, universal, transcendent. God does not see the individual ego. God does not pay attention to our lower nature. God has no concern for its happiness, health, growth, development, evolution, or success. God is only concerned for the Plan that seeks to bring people out of self, out of ego, into the divine Reality of unselfishness, group living, and spiritual service. The path to God is to stop following the desires of the ego for love and enlightenment, and simply follow the Spirit in our hearts. For if we listen to our hearts, we will find that Spirit is not here to help us seek for our own selfish development. Spirit is here to guide us to act in harmony with all those who also place their faith in God. Spirit is here to make us an instrument of the Plan for planet earth. Spirit is here if we are willing to let go of self and allow the personality to be used as a tool for the divine Plan. The path to God, then, is forgetting self, not developing self. The path to God is looking away from the desire of the self for happiness, health, and love towards the need of the group life. The path to God is letting the evolution of the ego go, and trusting the divine Will to work itself out. The path to God is being an instrument of the impersonal Truth. The path to God is having faith that the Spirit within our hearts already knows all that is needed for us; that need being the fulfillment of everything necessary to do our part in the One Work, not that which is necessary for our own evolution and happiness. Let us place our faith and trust in the Spirit in our hearts, and let all focus on the self drop away. |
